  17. 1. WHAT IS THE BUSINESSCARDS SOFTWARE?
  18. ======================================
  19. BusinessCards for Windows is a free form database program, useful for
  20. keeping track of any type of textual information. You can use
  21. BusinessCards to organize and manage any vital information, such as
  22. addresses, references, notes, etc.
  23.  
  24. BusinessCards is extremely intuitive and easy to use software. I've
  25. tried to make it to be more useful, than Windows Cardfile. BusinessCards
  26. has friendly and convenient folio-like user interface with alphabetic
  27. tabs and flipping pages. I expect you will be amazed by how fast you can
  28. learn to use it effectively.

  30. With BusinessCards you decide how to present and organize information.
  31. Instead of using predefined fields and record layouts, offered by most
  32. database programs and personal information managers, in BusinessCards
  33. you decide how to format and display your data. Moreover, you may use
  34. BusinessCards to store random data, such as video or CD titles, short
  35. articles, descriptions of collection items, etc.

  37. BusinessCards is compact. There are no requirements for megabytes of
  38. free disk space or extra memory to run the program. So if you are busy
  39. business traveller, you will be able to keep both program and data files
  40. on diskette and use them at client's site. Since BusinessCards  directly
  41. reads and writes Windows Cardfile files, there should be minimum
  42. problems, converting your existing address or price database.

  45. 2. WHAT IS IN DISTRIBUTION KIT?
  46. ===============================
  47. Normally, BusinessCards distribution kit consists of archive file
  48. BCR220.ZIP (or BCARDS.ZIP), which includes the following files:

  64. 3. HOW TO INSTALL BUSINESSCARDS?
  65. ================================
  66. In order to install BusinessCards software you need Windows 3.1 or
  67. Windows for Workgroups 3.1 or later, 2 MB of RAM and 500K of free disk
  68. space.

  70. Create a directory specifically for BusinessCards, such as C:\BCARDS.
  71. Copy the distribution file to that directory. Then run archive utility
  72. (such as PKUNZIP or ARJ) to unpack the files. If you use Windows Program
  73. manager, follow the instructions below. If you have other Windows shell
  74. installed (such as Norton Desktop for Windows), please refer to
  75. appropriate documentation on how to add a new program object to that
  76. shell.

  78. In Program Manager you can easily create a visible BusinessCards icon.
  79. To do that, first, select 'New' command in 'File' menu. Next, in 'New
  80. Program Object' dialog box choose 'Program Item'. In 'Program Item
  81. Properties' dialog box use the follwoing commads:

  83.          Description: BusinessCards
  84.        Commmand line: C:\BCARDS\BCARDS.EXE
  85.    Working directory: C:\BCARDS
  86.  
  87. Press 'Ok' button until you get back to the Program Manager. The
  88. BusinessCards icon should appear in current Program Manager's window. To
  89. run the program just double click on the its icon. There is complete
  90. documentation and information on how to use BusinessCards in the on-line
  91. Help.

  93. In case you would like to get rid of installed copy of BusinessCards,
  94. just remove program directory with all existing files. BusinessCards
  95. does not creates or updates any Windows system or initialization files.

  98. 4. HOW TO REGISTER THE PROGRAM?
  99. ===============================
  100. This software is a fully operational program. I have made it this way so
  101. that you can have a real look at it, and then decide whether
  102. BusinessCards fit your needs or not. If you do find it useful, the
  103. author asks that you please register your copy. Registration fee is
  104. $29.95. For this sum you will receive your personal serial number and:
  105.  
  106.     1. Original diskette with most up to date version of BusinessCards
  107.        for Windows software plus registration bonus -- BrainCubes
  108.        game for Windows.
  109.  
  110.     2. Your personal serial number to register the program. The initial
  111.        registration reminder dialog box which appears at the beginning
  112.        of the program is removed when you install your registered copy.
  113.        Also, your name will appear in Help/About dialog box and word
  114.        `UNREGISTERED' will be removed from program's title bar.
  115.  
  116.     3. The watermark printing is completely disabled in registered
  117.        version, so your printed output would contain no registration
  118.        reminder phrase.
  119.  
  120.     4. By registering, you are assured of receiving the most up-to-date
  121.        and full-featured product possible. Next program updates will be
  122.        free for all registered users and subsequent major upgrades will
  123.        be offered with significant discount. When you register, you will
  124.        be placed on mailing list to receive notices of new major
  125.        revisions when they become available.

  127.     5. Registered users will receive free unlimited technical support
  128.        over fax or email for their version of BusinessCards.

  131. number within 24 hours, so you be able to register your existing copy
  132. right away.

  198. 5. WHAT IS NEW IN VERSION V2.2?

  200. Below is a list of new features, implemented in version v2.2:

  204.     o   added new File/Merge command to merge two or more BusinessCards
  205.         files together;

  207.     o   added "last name" sort option in Options/Preferences/General
  208.         to change default sort sequence;

  210.     o   expanded number of configurable toolbar buttons for displays
  211.         with larger screen resolution;

  213.     o   added error handling when program can't save its settings
  214.         (BCARDS.INI file on CDROM or write-protected diskette);
  215.  
  216.     o   about box now displays version number in separate field; each
  217.         instance of the program uses different screen location;

  219.     o   fixed a bug, which caused general protection fault in
  220.         contents view with cards greater than 512 bytes.

  222.     o   fixed sort bug, which sometimes incorrectly handled card
  223.         attachments;
